NOBEL BIOCARE
From  medical science to dangerous marketing ?
Use of reliable components

The first thing that people expect of an implant , even before how inserted, is that it is reliable and safe, that it meets the needs of patient pathology. This guarantee is based on components tested for durability meeting all health and technical requirements.

Both as world leader, but especially as responsible professional company ,Nobel Biocare should observe this obligation both for its products and for those of companies and patents that it may have bought up as part of its external growth. It is now known that this is one of the major lines of development of the American giant since Hélène Canepa, CEO of Nobel Biocare, in an interview on 27 June 2007 declared ,regarding investment in patents that “these are our best acquisitions”

Thus in 1998, Nobel Biocare USA  bought the company Steri-Oss,  which had sold, at the beginning of the 90s, a titanium cylindrical implant  coated with  hydroxyapatite,  called HA,  which was presented  to practitioners as a revolutionary solution  for accelerating osseointegration.

Now , as a recent  judgment  of the Tribunal de Grande Instance (French Court of First Instance in civil and criminal matters) in Paris, has  revealed, this implant has never been the subject of any serious test.

Actually ,  this was not a surprise to practitioners who had inserted this implant  and reported that barely 3 years after insertion the implants on which the coating of hydroxyapatite had completely disappeared, fell out. This is the reason  for the trial.
